Discover Greenleigh At Crossroads Luncheon Attracts More Than 300 Attendees
“Greenleigh at Crossroads was Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz’s idea,” Edward St. John, Chairman of St. John Properties told a gathering of more than 300 business people and local residents attending the Discover Greenleigh at Crossroads luncheon recently. The event was organized to celebrate the accomplishments achieved at Greenleigh at Crossroads, the next development phase of Baltimore Crossroads, a 1000-acre mixed-use business community outside White Marsh in Baltimore County. Participants included commercial real estate brokers; attorneys, bankers, engineers, architects and other real estate professionals; as well as community members and elected public officials.
“Twelve years ago, Baltimore Crossroads was designed to consist of entirely commercial office and retail space, until I received a call from the County Executive asking for a meeting,” St. John relayed to the audience. “I want another Maple Lawn in Baltimore County was the message he had for us, referring to the mixed-use development in Howard County that we were developing in conjunction with master developer Greenebaum Enterprises. You never want to say no to the County Executive, so we pivoted our plans and reformulated the development to feature a walkable neighborhood that will eventually contain more than 2,000 single-family homes, townhomes and luxury multi-family homes. We are proud to say that this development will contribute more than $15 million in real estate taxes annually to Baltimore County.”
St. John explained privately after the event that plans are underway to honor the former County Executive with a public park and statue, recognizing the critical role Kamenetz played in shaping the future of the development. “This is a celebration of Kevin’s vision and we are here today to praise him,” St. John added.
“Kevin was often able to see things before the rest of us could, and Greenleigh is a prime example of his talent,” stated Baltimore County Executive Don Mohler, who was recently chosen to succeed Kamenetz and serve his remaining term. “Kevin considered himself equal parts architect, planner and community developer and he was always scribbling his ideas or drawing plans that would make Baltimore County a better place. If he was here today, he would say – see, I told you.”
Additional speakers included Baltimore County Councilwoman Cathy Bevins; Mike Caruthers of Somerset Construction Company; Ralph Doran of Stanley Black & Decker; David Murphy of Elm Street Development and Richard Williamson of St. John Properties.
Upon final build-out, the development will additionally support more than 2.7 million square feet of flex/R&D/bulk space; 750,000 square feet of Class “A” commercial office space; 250,000 square feet of retail space and 700 apartments.
Earlier this year, Stanley Black & Decker signed a full-building lease to occupy 75,000 square feet of space at Greenleigh at Crossroads to house its Global Tools and Storage Business, which will add 400 new jobs to Baltimore County. The White Marsh Marriott Springhill Suites, a four-story 120-room hotel opened at the development in April, as did The Berkleigh, a luxury apartment featuring upscale amenities.
To keep pace with the demand for commercial office and retail space at Greenleigh at Crossroads, St. John Properties is currently constructing a new four-story, 100,000 square foot Class “A” office building that is expected to deliver in 2019; two single-story commercial office buildings, each consisting approximately 36,000 square feet of space; and two single-story retail building offering 14,000 square feet of space each.
