Jake’s Wayback Burgers Selects Annapolis Technology Park for Second Restaurant Location in Maryland
BALTIMORE (June 6, 2011) – Jake’s Wayback Burgers, a Delaware-based company that operates nearly thirty locations throughout eight states, has selected Annapolis Technology Park as the site of its second restaurant in Maryland. Owned and developed by St. John Properties, Inc., Annapolis Technology Park is a 130,000 square foot mixed-use project located at the intersection of Riva Road and Harry S Truman Parkway that is positioned approximately five miles from downtown Annapolis. Jake’s Wayback Burgers has leased 1,315 square feet of space at 2625 Riva Road, where it plans to open this fall.
Founded in Newark, Delaware in 1991, Jake’s Wayback Burgers is recognized for its fresh-off-the-griddle, made-to-order hamburgers and specialty sandwiches, as well as complementary menu items that include hot dogs, chicken fingers and fresh salads. The restaurant also serves twelve flavor varieties of milkshakes such as orange cream and strawberry-banana, as well as house-made potato chips. A “Burger of the Month” special is also offered such as the “Rodeo Burger,” comprised of a cheeseburger topped with barbecue sauces and onion rings. The roster of specialty sandwiches consists of garden burgers, turkey burgers, grilled cheese and a B.L.T. offering.
“The specialty hamburger restaurant category is experiencing a surge in popularity as numerous national and regional concepts are capitalizing on the shifting trends and tastes among businesspeople and the consuming public,” explained Jerry Wit, Senior Vice President–Marketing for St. John Properties, Inc. “Many of today’s consumers find the fast-casual format appealing, with made-to-order meals, signature menu offerings, and low price-points. Business people seeking lunch during the workday, as well as families looking for a convenient dinner option, are attracted to this category based on their combination of high-quality meals at a decent value.
“Fast-casual restaurants such as Jake’s Wayback Burgers and Gino’s Burger’s Chicken (which signed a lease at St. John Properties’ Shops at Maryland Executive Park in Towson last month) typically build a large and loyal customer following that makes multiple visitations on a weekly basis,” Wit said. “With increasingly hectic schedules, families and business people are searching for new restaurant concepts that satisfy both their time and pocketbook budgets. Both of these new dining options have selected locations surrounded by mature residential neighborhoods and rapidly-growing business communities that will provide a healthy stream of weekday, evening and weekend consumers.”
In the 29-acre Annapolis Technology Park, which includes four office and flex buildings containing approximately 130,000 square feet of space, Jake’s will join such retail tenants as Subway, Dunkin’ Donuts, CVS/pharmacy, BB&T bank, Squisito Pizza, and others.
St. John Properties, Inc., founded in 1971 as MIE Properties, owns and has developed more than 15 million square feet of R&D/flex, office, retail and warehouse space in Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana, Virginia and Wisconsin.
