New Fast-Casual Restaurant Concept Meatballs, Etc. Signs Lease With St. John Properties At Quarterfield Center

BALTIMORE (October 14, 2014) – Meatballs, Etc., a new fast-casual concept that is part of the Monte Restaurant Group, has signed a lease with St. John Properties, Inc. for 2132 square feet of space at 801 Landmark Drive within Quarterfield Center in Glen Burnie. Monte Restaurant Group operates a variety of restaurant concepts throughout Maryland including Squisito Pizza & Pasta, Carpaccio Tuscan Kitchen & Wine Bar and Four Seasons Grille. Bill Holzman of St. John Properties negotiated the lease on behalf of the landlord in this transaction, which represented the restaurant company’s third location with the commercial real estate firm.

Quarterfield Center, which consists of six single-story and two-story office and retail buildings containing approximately 180,000 square feet of space, is located near the intersection of MD Route 174 (Quarterfield Road), MD Route 100 and Interstate 97 in Anne Arundel County. Meatballs, Etc., which intends to open in early 2015, will be located within a 7,200 square feet retail building that services Quarterfield Center tenants and the surrounding Glen Burnie business and consumer community. Additional retailers in this building include Subway and Edible Arrangements.

Meatballs, Etc., founded and owned by Michele and Gennaro DiMeo, is a combination Italian restaurant, “build-your-own” salad bar and sandwich shop which also serves the “traditional classic” Italian dishes. Customers will have their choice of four different meatball varieties for sandwiches or entrées, including Classic, Turkey, Lamb or Signature, with the latter weighing in at ten ounces. Patrons may select a sauce from options including tomato, Arrabiata, alfredo, creamy rose or marsala. The combination can be enjoyed in an Italian submarine roll, chopped salad bowl or capellini pasta bowl. The restaurant will also offer an assortment of other menu items including baked ziti, pasta and meat sauce, chicken marsala and several salad varieties.

“Quarterfield Center was an easy choice for us, in part based on the immediate success we experienced with our Squisito Pizza & Pasta that is located within close proximity,” said Michele DiMeo, Chief Operations Officer for Monte Restaurant Group. “The Crain Highway corridor has everything we were looking for, including a dense household population, wall-to-wall offices in a two-mile radius, North Arundel Hospital and the Baltimore-Washington Medical Center, big-box retailers and numerous medical uses. We envision strong lunchtime activity, catering from the local businesses and take-home dinners for families living hectic lifestyles.”

DiMeo indicates that her company is interested in adding three additional Meatball, Etc. locations in the central Maryland marketplace within the next year.

“Monte Restaurant Group is an extremely respected restaurant operator that has built tremendous customer followings for their Squisito Pizza & Pasta concept at our Annapolis Technology Park business community and opened successfully at Yorkridge Center North,” explained Bill Holzman, Vice President for Retail Leasing at St. John Properties. “Their decision to choose Quarterfield Center as the site of the inaugural Meatballs, Etc. concept was driven by the strong daytime and evening traffic, as well as the nearby demographics in the immediate area. Meatballs is a creative new fast-casual restaurant concept with unique menu offerings and little competition in the Glen Burnie marketplace.”

Founded in 1997, Monte Restaurant Group owns and operates ten restaurant locations in the local area with the concepts specializing in Italian, Tuscan Italian, New York-style or Mediterranean meets American cuisine. The company offers franchise opportunities for its Squisito Pizza & Plaza restaurants.
