The Maryland Zoo: Fall Volunteer Opportunities

Zoo Boo!

October 2nd-4th, 9th-11th, 23rd-25th, and 30th-31st

This annual family friendly Halloween festival is back but has been expanded! Volunteers will help with games, crafts, trick or treat stations, costume contests, inflatable hay maze, and more over four different weekends in October. Volunteers will be given an assignment during check-in the day of your shift.

• Oct 3rd and 4th are Member Mornings and will have an earlier start time than the rest of the dates
• They zoo is looking for volunteers who can sew. On 10/3, 10/4, 10/24, and 10/25 from 11:00-12:30 we will be having an animal clinic for ripped stuffed animals
• Age Requirement: Volunteers must be 14 and over. Anyone between 14-15 must volunteer with an adult who will also complete an application and volunteer for the event
• Shift Times: 9:15-1:15 and 12:30-4:15

Oktobear-Eve

Friday, October 16th

For the second time, Oktobearfest will be on a Friday evening and held completely within the Zoo.

• Age Requirement: Volunteers must be 18 years old or older to volunteer at our entrance. Volunteers must be 21 years old and older to pour alcohol.
• Volunteer Assignments:
  • Directional Support (4:30-7:30 and 6:30-9:15) – Help guide guests down and into the event area of the Zoo
  • Event Entrance (4:30-8:15pm) – Hand out glasses
  • Pouring (4:30-7:30 and 7:00-10:15) – Pour beer, cider, seltzer (or other types alcohol) into official event cups

Oktobearfest

Saturday, October 17th

Same day as the Baltimore Running Festival, aka Baltimore Marathon.
This fun fall beer festival celebrates its 14th anniversary. With over 40 beers, seltzers, cocktails, and more!

• Age Requirement: Volunteers must be 18 years old or older to volunteer at our entrance and recycling. Volunteers must be 21 years old and older to pour alcohol.
• Volunteer Assignments:
  • Event Entrance (11:30-3:30) – Check IDs, wristband, hand out glasses, monitor a gate, and more
  • Pouring (11:00 3:30 and 2:30-6:15) – Pour beer, cider, seltzer (or other types alcohol) into official event cups
  • Recycling Support (12:00-3:30 and 3:30-6:30) – Support the Zoo’s conservation mission by collecting beer cans and cardboard from stations and placing them in a specified dumpster – Must be able to bend, lift, twist, and walk up/down hills
  • Full Day Volunteering – If you complete two shifts within the same day you will receive a pizza lunch (2 slices) and have the choice of one free ticket to Brew at the Zoo in May or choice of two free Zoo tickets
